Select a paint from the search dropdown or type a HEX code to find its closest matches across all 1,000+ paints in the database. Results are ranked by colour distance, a numeric measure of how close two colours are in RGB space. The distance value is colour-coded so you can judge a match at a glance: green (under 10) is a very close match, amber (10–25) is moderate, and red (over 25) is a significant colour difference.
Enable Only show matches from My Hoard to restrict results to paints you already own — useful for deciding which of your existing paints best substitutes for one you have run out of. The matcher works across every major range, including Citadel Base and Layer, Vallejo Game Color and Model Color, Army Painter Warpaints, Scale75, Pro Acryl, AMMO Mig, and Reaper, so you can find equivalents when switching brands, replacing a discontinued pot, or building a brand-agnostic collection. Use the number field to control how many matches are returned. Any paint in the results can be added to or removed from your Hoard directly from the results list without leaving the page.
Tips for better matches
A very low distance means a true drop-in substitute; a higher number means a usable approximation that will read as a slight tonal shift on the model. When in doubt, compare the hex swatches side by side rather than trusting the name alone.
How do I find an equivalent paint from another brand?
Search for your paint by name or enter its HEX code. The matcher calculates the colour distance between it and every paint in the database, then returns the closest matches across all brands — Citadel, Vallejo, Army Painter, Scale75, Pro Acryl, and more.
Can I find a Vallejo equivalent for a Citadel paint?
Yes. Search for the Citadel paint by name, then look for Vallejo Game Color or Model Color in the ranked results. For a focused view you can also use the dedicated Citadel to Vallejo converter page.
What does the distance value mean?
It is the straight-line (Euclidean) distance between two colours in RGB space. 0 is identical; under about 10 is a very close match; 10–25 is moderate; over 25 is a noticeable difference.
Can I match by HEX code?
Yes. Paste any HEX value (for example #7A1F1F) in the custom colour field and the matcher returns the closest real paints across all brands — handy for matching reference colours from digital art or swatches.
How accurate are the paint matches?
Matches use RGB colour-distance across our paint database. HEX values are derived from community data and digital references, so they are accurate guides but may not perfectly match physical paint due to surface texture, opacity, and lighting.
Can I limit results to brands I own?
Yes. Enable the My Hoard option to only see equivalents from paints in your own collection.
